Free World Cup 2010 Office Pool Software

Thanks to Haroon Rafique and Cris Diaconu for their contributions.

This pool is much like the last one. You are free to download the software.

It’s basically one index.php script which does everything. The SQL script is also in there, all you’ll need to do is put it on a PHP enabled server somewhere and change the ez_sql.php file to point to the right database.

Here’s what mine looks like:

We’ve added some fancy stuff like Google Charts integration which tracks the leaderboard etc.

Enjoy and good luck!

Thanks for the software, but I’m not great when it comes to this stuff. Where do I put the username, password, database name, and host in the MySQL script?

    Thanks again,
    z

You need to create the database, execute the mysql scripts on it.
Change the username/password/db info in ez_sql.php

    That should be it.

    Hi,

Do you need to maintain the folder structure for the software to work? Do you need to run both SQL files?

    Thanks for all your work,

    Paul

Paul, the folder structure does not need to be maintained. Just unzip the files in the football folder somewhere. Executing the footballpool_grants.sql is optional, if you just edit the ez_sql.php file with the db info, then you don’t need to. It’s just there for convenience and probably only understandable to a techy guy.

Hello, trying to implement your WorldCup Pool Software, but having difficulty. It looks great on your site so we’re really hoping we can get this going.

    i) I’ve FTP’ed all files to the website folder.

ii) Changed user name / db name / psswrd in the ez_sql.php file.

Not really sure which of the ones to change however… I’ve tried just the first one and all but this doesn’t work.

iii) Although in one of your post you’ve said it’s not necessary to run the mysql scripts I’ve tried this with phpAdmin but also get errors. After running footballpool.sql with psswrd/name ect. changed I got various errors trying to substitute in the psswrd/username/dbname,host ect. In one case I did get 4 tables were generated:
    entrant, error, player, winner.

I’m thinking this really should just be a matter of entering the correct dbname, username, psswrd, and hostname/location. For the php and sql files but clearly I’m not replacing the corrects ones…

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers, Mike

Line 39 on ez_sql.php is what needs to be changed.

Just execute the footballpool.sql file, the other one is not necessary.
